How to make the most of a large bathroom

A large bathroom sounds wonderful. And how exciting if you do have a large bathroom and are planning a refurbishment in 2023. Just imagine being able to create your own perfect bathroom from scratch with no space restrictions at all!

The problem is that when there are no space restrictions it can be all too easy to fill that space with all kinds of bathroom furniture and accessories. You could end up with a cluttered bathroom that does not use the space to its best advantage.

A much better way forward is to carefully  consider who will be using the space and how. This will enable you to decide on the best and most important options you would like to include, so that you can plan how many of them you realistically can fit in.

So in this article we share five tips on how to make the most of a large bathroom.

Create zones

A large space gives you the opportunity to create different zones within the bathroom. For example, you could have distinct areas of the room for bath, shower and vanity. Not all of these elements have to be around the walls. If you have a large central space it may work to use this for a feature such as a freestanding bath or basin, a  bathroom island, or comfortable seating.

If you do want to create zones, also consider varying the decor of each one. For example you could use different paint colours or flooring or lighting, or perhaps separate them off with display shelving or screens.

Double basins

One practical yet stylish use of bathroom space is to install double bathroom basins. These could either be installed close together in a vanity unit or be separate freestanding basins. Whatever layout you choose, it enables two people to use the bathroom at the same time and can create a sense of symmetry in your bathroom design.

Free standing bath

We have already referred to having  a focal point for your bathroom, perhaps in the centre of the room. A freestanding bath can be ideal for this. The surrounding space will showcase its design features, and it will be the height of luxury in which to enjoy a relaxing bath at the end of a long day.

At Stone and Chrome we work with high end bath suppliers to provide the very best freestanding baths. The example pictured below shows a stunning master en-suite featuring  a large natural stone freestanding bath from Clearwater Baths.

Walk in shower / wet area

An excellent use of  large bathroom space is to create a luxurious walk in shower or wet area. You could even make this a double entry area, as shown below.

When space is not an issue there are also many additional features you can add to your shower, such as heating, recessed storage areas, additional shower heads and smart features. The example pictured below is a Hansgrohe ShowerSelect Black Glass controls with Black Glass Rainmaker Select. So, make planning the perfect walk in shower or wet area a priority in your large bathroom.

Creative storage

No matter how large your bathroom, it still needs to have creative storage areas. Otherwise it can end up with towels, toiletries and clothes scattered around which can totally spoil the look of your luxury bathroom. So make sure you plan plenty of storage features, such as stylish towel rails and perhaps a concealed storage cupboard behind a large mirror as in the image below.

Also consider making a feature of your storage. How about a custom-designed vanity unit, which could house your basis(s) and also look stunning, as well as providing lots of lovely storage. Another feature we love is recessed storage areas to tastefully display your most-used bathroom essentials. These can be highlighted even more with the addition of pretty LED lighting, as shown in the image below.
