Black Friday – White Christmas?!

screen-shot-2016-11-26-at-09-15-21Is it safe to come out yet?!   If your email inbox is anything like ours you may have become rather weary this week of all the Black Friday hype.   Where did Black Friday suddenly come from?!  Black Friday is always the day immediately after Thanksgiving in the United States and marks the start of the Christmas shopping season, with many supposedly special deals to be had.  This time last year we ran a blog called Black Friday – Black Bathrooms which explored the origins of Black Friday.

Buy Nothing Day!

We are not the only ones to question the whole concept of Black Friday.  In fact there is now a rapidly growing counter movement called Buy Nothing Day which slates the whole concept of Black Friday and urges consumers to refuse to buy anything at all on Black Friday.  Or if they must, then to “ignore the big retailers with their aisles of organised landfill and make commitment to support local independent shops and businesses”.

We wonder if Black Friday is a trend that will continue in the UK or whether it will perhaps run its course in the next year or two.  Time will tell!

But one tradition that is definitely here to stay is Christmas!   Next month in fact ….

White Christmas?

By all accounts this year we might be in for that elusive White Christmas.  At our Camberley showroom we are already celebrating the season.  The images below show our wonderful Christmas tree, a basin of chocolate coins – and above you can see our polar bears on guard in case anything gets out of hand!

Christmas is an ideal opportunity to take a bit of down time and enjoy being with family and friends.  It can be a busy time but for many of us with demanding jobs it is just nice to spend a bit of time at home.  It is also often the time when we start to think about home improvements over the coming year, and perhaps a new bathroom will be on your list?

Fairytale Bathrooms

Just to inspire you we’d love to show you more of a recent project we did, to create a stunning master ensuite bathroom.

The bathroom has many distinctive items, and features many natural products.   There is a simple yet stunning walk in shower with Perrin & Rowe traditional shower set and a shower panel from KUDOS Showers.   For those who prefer to languish in a warm bath, what better than this stylish Ophelia cast iron bath with chrome feet.   The bath is painted Farrow & Ball Pavillion Gray as is the elegant painted furniture.  The furniture features a stone surface in black granite which provides a nice contrast against the limestone and chrome brassware.   The bathroom is perfectly finished off by a high level Burlington Bathrooms WC and walls painted in Inchyra Blue.

Small can be beautiful!

This project illustrates perfectly that small can be beautiful!   At Stone and Chrome this applies in two ways.  Firstly, we can work with whatever the size and shape of the space you have for your bathroom.  We use the highest quality products including manufacturing our own bespoke items to ensure the perfect fit.   Secondly, although we are a small business we have over 25 years in creating beautiful bathrooms.

So if you are considering installing a new bathroom or refurbishing an existing one during 2017 why not take on board the advice of Buy Nothing Day and support a local independent business?   The photographs above represent just one of the many wonderful bathrooms that we have worked on this year, and you can see many other examples in our gallery here.

To see more for yourself do come and visit our Camberley showroom over the next few weeks!  If you make it in before Christmas then you might even manage to sneak a few chocolate coins away from those ever vigilant polar bears!
