Time for Reflection

royal_british_legions_paper_poppy_-_white_backgroundRemembrance Sunday is always a time to take stock of what has gone before and made us what we are now.  Today we honour and respect all those who sacrificed themselves to make it possible for us to live in freedom and absence of fear.  Even though we are living in a time of great change in every way – politically, economically, technologically and culturally – we still have so much to be grateful for.

Various research has indicated that feeling and expressing gratitude can help increase happiness, positive emotions, enjoyment of experiences, health, resilience, and strong relationships.  For many people, acknowledging the good things in their lives also enables them to look outside themselves and connect to other people, nature, or a higher power.  Gratitude is good!

Me Time

However, taking time out of our busy schedules on a regular basis to reflect and be grateful can be so hard to do.  Many of us feel guilty about actively claiming some “me-time” when there are always so many other things to be done. Yet unless we do make the opportunity to recharge our batteries on a regular basis we will soon be running on empty: which is no use to anyone.

An ideal solution to this dilemma is perhaps to channel some of your reflection time into the bathroom.  As you need to spend some time in there for personal hygiene purposes, why not also see a long refreshing shower or luxuriant soak in a bath as an opportunity to step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and create a bit of headspace?

Hygge

Screen Shot 2016-02-14 at 17.16.53In January we wrote about the Danish concept of hygge.  This has since become all the rage – with books on hygge set to vie for position in the Christmas top sellers list!   Hygge has no direct English translation but is used to describe the feelings of being cosy or snug or comfortable.   Perhaps another way of explaining hygge is “making things nice”.  So, rather than the usual rush through your bathroom routine, why not add on a few extra minutes to pamper yourself a little and hygge your bathroom time?

Candles, fairy lights, scented products, luxurious oils and large fluffy bath towels are a few of the ways that you can make your bathroom time just that little bit more indulgent.  As you carve out some precious me-time, take time to reflect on what has gone before, what is here now, and what is still to come and be thankful for the good things in your life.  We love the images below – taken from a range of Stone and Chrome bathrooms – that may inspire you!
