It’s a rainy Bank Holiday Monday and many of us will decide to stay indoors and “sort the house out”. Decluttering can be a cathartic process and lead to a sense of achievement when it’s finished. Not only that, but it’s become rather trendy.
A recent best-selling book by Marie Kondo – The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organising – is taking the domestic world by storm, in spite of its rather cluttered title!
The key concept espoused by the book is to only keep the things that “spark joy” or are truly necessary.
Very similar to the artist William Morris’s musing in the late 19th century 200 years ago – “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.
Anything that doesn’t fall into either of those two categories is to be touched and thanked and bid a fond farewell, then sent on its way hopefully towards a better life – and a more appreciative owner – elsewhere.
Bathrooms for Life
So how does this apply to bathrooms? Is it possible to have a minimalist, show home standard bathroom in real life? What do you do with all the “stuff”?
At Stone and Chrome we create bathrooms for life. Bathrooms that not only look beautiful but are also practical in every way. Let’s take a quick look at some storage ideas for bathrooms that can showcase the things that spark joy and hide away those that are truly necessary!
Things that spark joy
There are many things in our bathrooms that we do want to showcase. Larger bathrooms can have eye-catching items such as stunning floral arrangements and beautiful ornaments as a feature. You could display these on stylish pieces of bathroom furniture such as the basin unit pictured here.
Many people love to have an array of subtle lighting in their bathroom. One of the trademarks of a Stone and Chrome bathroom is to feature LED lighting such as the recessed shelving shown here. Not only does this look stunning and add warmth and ambience to your bathroom but it could also be used to showcase small precious items.
Candles are also a very popular feature in bathrooms and we think that the shelving shown below – featuring a combination of candles and designer toiletries – looks stunning. An ideal mix of beauty and practicality.
The things that are truly necessary
There are many other items in bathrooms that are truly necessary but you don’t particularly want on show all the time. Yet if you don’t have sufficient storage then it is only too easy for clutter to begin to creep in! The images below show some bathroom storage solutions that are as elegant as they are practical. Items of bathroom furniture that will spark joy as well as housing the truly necessary!
Enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday whatever you are doing. If you are decluttering then we hope that the Marie Kondo tips are helpful and give you a new sense of purpose and determination!
